OAKTON #1 Hitting Team in the Nation (April 2004)

With the decisive doubleheader victory against Waubonsee Community College on Saturday, NJCAA statistics now show (through April 4, 2004) the Oakton Raiders baseball team as having the Number One batting average in the country in D2 baseball with a .376 batting average.

New Hitting coach Mike Huber has worked very hard with the players with his unique hitting program and the results have been tremendous. Hitting leaders on the Raiders are John Uribe hitting .487 with 4 doubles, 3 triples and 13 RBI, Jeff Wertepny hitting .485 with 9 doubles, 2 home runs and 14 RBI and Brandon Cox hitting .466 with 4 doubles, 5 triples, 2 home runs and 19 RBI.

The Raiders continue to lead the entire Region IV in pitching with a 2.81 team ERA. No national rankings are published in the pitching category.

Oakton continues its schedule this week with a Tuesday doubleheader at Morton, a single game Wednesday at South Suburban, a doubleheader at Highland on Thursday and a doubleheader at McHenry on Saturday.
